Former Prosecution Experience

Let a Former Felony Prosecutor Fight for You

When you have been arrested and charged with a crime, you have a long list of attorneys from which to choose in Fort Bend County; any one of whom would be ready to take on your case as soon as you call. How do you know which one to choose? The decision of who to hire as your criminal defense attorney may be one of the most important choices you will ever make, as it could mean the difference between successfully beating the charges and being sent to jail or prison. One of the many reasons you can have confidence in choosing the Law Office of John L. Venza Jr. is the fact that I am a former felony prosecutor and have worked on both sides of the courtroom.

Before entering practice as acriminal attorney, I served as an assistant district attorney for the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office from 2002 to 2003, after which I worked in the Brazoria County District Attorney's Office from 2003 to 2006. During my time representing the state of Texas, I prosecuted a vast spectrum of cases, ranging from simple traffic tickets to first-degree felonies, including murder charges. I began as a Justice Court prosecutor handling Class C misdemeanors and rose to the level of a District Court prosecutor exclusively handling felony cases. My trial approach was characterized by many long hours, late nights, and weekends spent learning cases inside and out and constantly turning them over in my mind. Unlike other prosecutors who relied on investigators to do much of the "hit the streets" work, I put countless miles on my truck's odometer, visiting the crime scene myself and personally interviewing witnesses. This dedication enabled me to achieve excellent results and provided me with invaluable experience that I use to this day.

Why Hire a Former Prosecutor

My background gives me a unique insight into the strategies that will be used against you in your case. I know how law enforcement agencies approach cases such as yours, where they search for evidence, and how they go about building a case against a defendant. More importantly, I know where to look for mistakes that the investigator and prosecutor may have made in preparing a case, knowledge which often makes it possible for me to gain leverage over the D.A. I scour the police report, looking for errors and inconsistencies that can be exploited to my client's advantage, and I use this information to relentlessly cross-examine the testifying officers at trial. My goal is to engage in sufficient preparation in order to walk into the courtroom knowing the case better than the D.A. does so that I am ready to fight aggressively and control the situation.

I am ready to put my experience to work for you. Contact me today!

Challenging Blood Toxicology Reports

I have personally cross-examined many blood toxicology experts, and I know what to look for in evidence, and what potential flaws could exist in a blood toxicology report. For example, certain physical conditions could influence a blood test. My experience in challenging this evidence and success rate in court can be a great benefit to you if you are accused of driving while under the influence of any pharmaceutical or "street drug." Cross examination is an art, and a great depth of understanding of the science behind the report is critical if you hope to gain ground in challenging a blood toxicology expert. I have the knowledge, skills and experience that can benefit you in this aspect of your case.
